TA’s
|
181 TA’s completed. If you are still waiting to be ‘processed’ let me know so that I can complete the TA or at least have a discussion to see where you are with your MRC unit. Make sure you are updating your profile regularly- national looks at these profiles – they query the profile info so keep updated on individual unit activities.

IDFPR and IDPH communications
|
IDFPR- Illinois Department for Professional Regulation-
IDPH has been attempting to get IDFPR to put a link on their registration for license renewals to ask the question if the professional renewing would like to join an MRC unit.
|
40 thousand nurses just renewed their licenses through the site- so this should help in recruiting volunteers down the line.
IDFPR lawyers and IDPH lawyers are working on the papers to have the link on IDFPR website by 2012

In response to background checks with IlllinoisHelps question posed by Melissa Watt Henderson
|
Background check process will probably change from grant year to grant year- so far we will have to play that part by ear
|
The original plan was to only do background checks upon activation of applicant- however we recognize we need the checks to be done earlier in the process. Right now we will do the criminal background check at the outset- the expense adds up quickly and that is one of the things we still need to figure out for the future

Chi-MRC/CCOAD
Chicagoland Community Organizations Active in Disaster
|
Faithbased and community based mini coalition of volunteers doing the same kinds of activities focusing on public health initiatives. We have about 10 units so far working together- just wanted you to be aware that it exists. These church groups have sister churches and satellites outlying- so we may see movement work from the city out to the suburban sites. Have asked them to contact the local MRC to form a partnership.
Wanted you to know of its existence-
Mission: To coordinate planning efforts by all of the many organizations to small scale disasters. Coordinating prior to the incident.
Do we want to become a part of it, either as individual units or as MRCIl? MOU’s would be useful and could be a valuable resource.
|
We need more information.
Bob will send out a link and then a follow up survey to see how unit leaders feel.

Chicago Marathon
10-10-2010
|
Stats:
Over 45,000 runners
1.5 million spectators
12,000 volunteers
2 medical tents, 100 beds each, AEDS with monitors
Field ICU
28 stations
16 Spotter towers
Finish line Medical tent
|
Immense undertaking. Chicago marathon has most sophisticated response anywhere in the world at this point.
They will start working on the 2011 marathon plans in December 2010. I highly encourage any MRC to volunteer- they will be treated as medical volunteers with accommodations for the day, food and the after party. RACES will be there this year and some MRC members from Illinois units.
This is a really unique experience, let’s get in on next years race. Bob will update hopefully in January.

Northwestern Simulation Lab
|
Simulation training at Northwestern Med center this past week- Bob attended- met medical director- had never heard of the MRC and was excited to work with the MRC. The Medical Director has offered the MRC the use of the sim lab after January 1 to run through the lab free of charge for training. They will invite MRC input and try to have online training available as well.
