| | Chicago Marathon 2011 - Volunteers Lauded for Lifesaving Actions A dozen volunteers that were recruited by MRCIL for the Chicago Marathon in October of this year have received praise from Marathon Officials for their actions in reviving a 61 year old man that collapsed just prior to the finish line. The participant went down and was soon pulseless and non-responsive. The volunteers assisting him started CPR until an AED arrived. The AED showed an unshockable rythmn and the CPR was continued. After 4 or 5 minutes of continuous CPR, the patient became revivied and was transfered shortly after to an ALS crew. There were 12 volunteers altogether that were part of the full response on this incident. They were Bobby Higgin and Susan Byrnes from McHenry County MRC, Amy Krupa, Sandee Schlickman and Jeffrey Gilbert from IMERT, Jodi Spresser-Ernstes from Kalamazoo, Mi MRC and Mike Fox, Dagmar Rutzen, James Heinlein, John Aykroid, Mark Levy and Geoff Stevens from Maine Twp Regional MRC and Maine Twp OEM. In the eyes of the participant and of the Marathon, these individuals all have what heroes are made of. Congratulations to all of them for a job well done. See their pictures in our Gallery.
