The Chicago Medical Reserve Coalition (Chi-MRC) has completed its first two meetings and are primed to move forward. This coalition is a combination of Faith-Based and Community-Based MRCs in Illinois. It is starting with those units that are located in the City of Chicago and will eventually invite other units of the same type to join them.
Chi-MRC’s mission is to unify community and faith based Medical Reserve Corps units in order to create a solidly joined Public Health outreach vehicle.
Our overall purpose is to serve our target population and individuals with special needs, who are most vulnerable due to the lack of proper social services, pre-existing poverty issues, racial disparities and the absence of insurance and other basic resources.
The Chicago Medical Reserve Coalition (Chi-MRC) Goals
We will accomplish this through accessible community health awareness education and resources in the following areas:
ü Family Awareness information and resources for Health Fitness, including but not limited to Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Substance Prevention and Intervention, Asthma Prevention and Control and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Screening;
ü Awareness for Youth and Children in the areas of free medical and dental screenings and back to school health exams;
ü Awareness information and screenings for Women’s Health Issues, such as Breast & Cervical Cancer Prevention and Early Detection;
ü Awareness information and screenings for Men’s Health Issues, such as, Prostate Cancer Prevention and Early Detection;
ü Education, information, and resources for Emergency Preparedness Responses; and
ü General Public Health Awareness and Responsiveness, including creating and maintaining an atmosphere to assist Public Health Agencies in the distribution of emergency pharmaceuticals and/or vaccinations as needed throughout our communities.
